How to Make Awesome Spaghetti Sauce Using a Pressure Cooker

March is National Sauce Month and there’s no better way to make delicious spaghetti sauce than in a pressure cooker. Electric pressure cookers typically work best and there are many awesome spaghetti sauce electric pressure cooker recipes.

Here’s one that is so simple to make and we think you’ll enjoy:

First, you’ll need to gather your ingredients. For this recipe, you’ll need ½ pound of ground beef, ½ pound bulk Italian sausage or bulk pork sausage, 2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms (6 ounces), ½ cup chopped onion, ½ cup sliced celery (1 stalk), 2 cloves minced garlic, 1/3 cup snipped fresh parsley, 1 teaspoon sugar, 1 teaspoon crushed dried oregano, ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper, 2 bay leaves, 1 28oz can stewed tomatoes, 1 6oz can tomato paste, and 6 cups hot cooked pasta.

Next, it’s time to get to put your pressure cooker to good use.

To start, cook the beef and sausage until brown in the pressure cooker. Once it is cooked, remove the meat from the pressure cooker and drain off the fat.

Once the fat is drained, place the meat back in the pressure cooker and add in the mushrooms, onion, celery, garlic, parsley, sugar, oregano, crushed red pepper, bay leaves, stewed tomatoes, and tomato paste.

Now you’re almost there. Lock the lid of your pressure cooker in place and set it to the recommended temperature and pressure for sauces. Many electric pressure cookers have preset cooking settings that will give you the right cooking temperature and pressure with a touch of a button.

Cooking time will vary from pressure cooker to pressure cooker but it typically takes about 10 minutes for the sauce to be ready.

Once it’s done, release the pressure using the valve on your pressure cooker and carefully remove the lid. Remove the bay leaves and serve the sauce over pasta. This recipe should serve about six people.

If there is any leftover sauce, it will save great for 24 hours or more if covered and kept cool in your refrigerator. You could even seal it and freeze it to save the sauce for even longer.

Why Choose a Pressure Cooker Over a Slow Cooker?

Slow cookers are popular kitchen appliances, but what if we told you that there is something better that can replace your slow cooker and several other items in your kitchen?

There are certain situations where a pressure cooker is the hands-down choice over a slow cooker. Here are a few:

If you want quick, easy meals

As opposed to the pace of a SLOW cooker, a pressure cooker can have a delicious meal prepared for you in minutes. With a pressure cooker, you can come home completely unprepared for dinner and still whip something up for the whole family in no time. Try doing that with a slow cooker and see how it goes.

If you’re a vegetarian or love beans

Some of the best recipes for pressure cookers are vegetarian. A pressure cooker cooks vegetables all the way through while maintaining their crisp and taste. Slow cookers often leave vegetables mushy. Beans are also one of the easiest and most popular foods made in pressure cookers. Beans can fall apart and lose their flavor in slow cookers. But a pressure cooker will cook beans fast without splitting them.

If you’re running out of room in your kitchen

As previously stated, a pressure cooker can replace many of your kitchen appliances. Many pressure cookers even come with a slow cooking insert or function, allowing you to do away with your slow cooker completely. A pressure cooker can also brown or sauté your food, leaving little need for pots and pans. You can downsize your kitchen items while increasing your kitchen space with a pressure cooker.

If you want to can foods

There are pressure cookers that offer a canning function, which you will not find in a slow cooker. Pressure cookers bring temperatures up so high that it’s also easier to can lower-acid foods like soup. Maybe you can even use the extra space that you now have in your kitchen thanks to a pressure cooker to store some of the food that you can.

If you live at high altitude

If you live at high altitude, you know the boiling point of water goes down as you go up. With a pressure cooker, you won’t have to worry about this because it keeps the temperature and pressure at the right levels throughout the cooking process. Foods such as beans and other lentils have a hard time fully cooking at high altitude, but not with a pressure cooker.
